MFA - Setting up the Microsoft Authenticator app

Because texts and phone calls can potentially be intercepted, the preferred method for multifactor authentication (MFA) is to use the Microsoft Authenticator app. These are the steps for configuring the Authenticator app on your mobile device. The screenshots are from an iPhone, but the process is the same for Android devices. Remember, you will need to repeat this process when you get a new mobile device!

  • Sign in to myaccount.microsoft.com with your Darden credentials and then click Update Info in the Security Info tile:

  • Click + Add sign-in method:

  • Select Microsoft Authenticator from the menu:

  • When prompted, install Microsoft Authenticator from the App Store on your phone; once installed, click Next:

  • Click Next:

  • On your iPhone, open the Authenticator app:

  • In the upper-right corner of the Authenticator app, tap the + symbol to add an account:

  • Tap Work or school account:

  • Tap Scan QR code

(If prompted, allow the Authenticator app to use the camera)

  • Use the phone’s camera to scan the QR code on the computer monitor:

  • You should now see your Darden account in the Authenticator app:

  • Back on the computer, click Next:

  • The system will now validate your Authenticator app by sending an approval request that displays a two-digit code:

  • On your phone, enter the two-digit code and then tap Yes:

  • On the computer, verify that the notification was approved and click Next:

  • In addition to your phone and email address, you should now see Microsoft Authenticator (1) as a sign-in method; click Change (2) to set the Authenticator app as the default:

  • Select Microsoft Authenticator - notification from the dropdown menu and click Confirm:

  • Your default sign-in method should now be set to Microsoft Authenticator - notification:

Congratulations! You are now set up with the easiest, most secure method of multifactor authentication!
