Zoom Tips, Tricks, and Features
Zoom is a unified communication and collaboration platform that is used to provide virtual meeting spaces. Zoom has added new features and security offerings over the years.
Logging on
Go to https://zoom.us and click on sign in
You will be taken to the Zoom logon page. Do not enter your credentials here. Instead, click on SSO and you will be taken to a page asking for the domain name. Darden’s domain is "Darden-Virginia". Use your Darden email address and password if prompted.
Why sign in with SSO to the Darden instance of Zoom?
- Can bypass the waiting room if the host allows it.
- Allows you to stay connected longer. The basic (free) version of Zoom only allows 40 minute meetings.
- If you are scheduling the meeting, more people can be invited.
Meeting Security
To add more security to your meeting, the waiting room and passcode options can be chosen on the meeting scheduling page.
If you have the “Require authentication to join” setting turned on, participants who try to join without being logged into a Zoom account will get an error message like this:
"Please log in with a commercial Zoom account to join."
A participant may be unable to join a meeting or webinar because of the errors:
"Unable to join this meeting. The host requires authentication on the commercial Zoom platform to join this meeting. Please log in with a commercial Zoom account to join"
or
"This meeting is for authorized participants only. Click 'Switch Account to Join' to sign into Zoom with an email address authorized for joining this meeting"
These errors indicate that the meeting or webinar is configured to require authentication. Turning this autentication off will disable it for future meetings, but meetings scheduled in the past will have to be edited individually.
Additionally, there are optional settings which allow hosts to have audio and video on/off by default, automatically record meetings, etc.
Notes for Zoom
Notes for Zoom is a new feature that provides customers with a dedicated, built-in note-taking app, which allows users to quickly capture thoughts, action items, and more from within a Zoom Meeting. In addition, Notes can be used collaboratively with other participants in a meeting, as well as shared with other users outside of meetings. Click HERE for more information on Zoom Notes features.
