Connecting to Eduroam (iOS)

Follow the steps below to connect your macOS device to UVA’s Eduroam wireless network.

1. Set up an auto-lock passcode for your device, if you do not already have one set:
a. On your device, tap Settings, then General, then Passcode Lock.
b. Create and confirm a 4-digit numerical passcode of your choosing.

2. Connect to the UVA WiFi Setup network:
a. Ensure WiFi is ON by tapping Settings, then Wi-Fi, and toggle the ON/OFF switch to ON.
b. Then choose the UVA WiFi Setup network, and tap Join.

3. Open Safari and type in.virginia.edu/wifi
a. You MUST use Safari, not a different web browser, to obtain your certificate and connect to eduroam.

4. Click Continue under Faculty, Staff, & Students to download and run the UVA Network Setup Tool (by SecureW2):
a. You will be asked to "Sign In" through NetBadge and 2-Step Login (Duo).
b. Once you've signed in, press Continue to run the UVA Network Setup Tool (NST). Follow the prompts to finish setting up WiFi.
c. You will see the first screen below after the final prompt.
YOU MUST WAIT TO SEE THE "This website is trying to download a configuration profile. Do you want to allow this?" POP-UP, shown in the second screen below, before you go to Settings to complete setup.
This could take about 30 seconds or up to several minutes. Once you see the pop-up, press Allow.

d. You will know the profile has been downloaded once you see the "Profile Downloaded" pop-up, shown below. Press Close.

e. Go to your Settings to complete WiFi setup. Press Profile Downloaded (it will be directly under your name, as shown with a red circle in the example below), then press Install (you may have to click Install several times).
Then, press Done. Press Back to return to your Settings.

Note: If you do not see the "Profile Downloaded" option in your Settings, then you most likely did not allow the download (see previous steps "c" and "d" above). Re-run the Network Setup Tool and be sure to wait ~30 seconds to several minutes to allow the profile to download.

Important information regarding Apple devices:
Due to Apple's security changes to the latest iOS, you will need to disable SDP (Stolen Device Protection) in order to run the Network Setup Tool and install a digital certificate.
To disable this feature, you can follow Apple's instructions found here.
Please note these additional instructions from UVA ITS before you start:

5. Make sure you are connected to UVA’s encrypted eduroam wireless network (and not the UVA WiFi Setup network):
a. In Settings, click Wi-Fi, and select the correct network. (You may now need to tell your device to “Forget” the UVA WiFi Setup network.)
b. If there isn’t a check next to eduroam, tap it to connect. (If eduroam is not listed, you are not within range of the network.)
