Follow the steps below to connect your Android device to UVA’s Eduroam wireless network.
1. Connect to the UVA WiFi Setup network
On your device, connect to the UVA WiFi Setup network.
If a pop-up appears saying “Sign in to Wi-Fi network,” do not sign in.
Instead, return to your Home screen and proceed to Step 2.
2. Launch the setup tool
Open Chrome or your device’s default Android browser.
Visit: in.virginia.edu/wifi
Under Faculty, Staff, & Students, tap Continue.
Tap Download and then install the SecureW2 JoinNow app from the Google Play Store.
Once the app is installed, tap Open.
3. Authenticate and install the certificate
The app will open a NetBadge login screen.
Sign in using Option 2 (your UVA Computing ID and password) and complete 2-Step Login (Duo) if prompted.
-
You may be asked to name the certificate and choose how to use it:
Renaming is optional.
Leave the certificate usage as "VPN and apps" or "VPN & app user certificate" (recommended).
Tap OK to continue.
4. Allow the app to manage Wi-Fi
-
You may receive a system notification asking you to allow JoinNow MultiOS to connect to Wi-Fi networks.
Tap Allow.
Note: On Android 10, swipe from the top and expand the notification to see the Allow option.
On Android 11, the prompt should appear directly.
If prompted with a screen saying “Allow App to Enable Wi-Fi,” tap Next.
5. Remove other UVA networks
Do not tap Done yet.
-
You must remove any previously saved UVA networks from your device to ensure Eduroam works properly:
Go to Wi-Fi settings.
Tap Saved networks.
-
-
For each of these networks (e.g., UVA WiFi Setup, wahoo, UVA Guest):
Long-press the network name and tap Forget.
-
-
Tap the back arrow to return to Wi-Fi settings.
Wait a moment to confirm that your device connects to Eduroam.
6. Confirm your connection to Eduroam
Your device should now be connected to Eduroam WiFi.
If not, return to Wi-Fi settings and verify the connection was successful.
